50-110 WCF dimensions

Anyone have experience with this caliber. I was lookign at a 510 Kodiak Express which si a bottleneck version of the 50-110 loaded ++p++.


Is 50 alaskan compatible in the the 50-110WCF chambers. If so, losing the bottleneck may be a more useful so you could use 50Alaskan off the shelf ammo in a pinch.

At one time these things fascinated me, then I learned they KICK hard!

.348 Winchester is made on the 50/110 rim. Shorter and bottle necked. 1930s for the redesigned "71" Winchester Lever. (Redesign of 1886). I believe the 50 Sharps 3 1/4 was also known as the 50/140 WCF. So I am guessing that the 50/110 is in the 2 7/8 inch range, straight. You might be able to blow out .348's brass and get close.

While I am not familiar with the Kodiak, the .50 Alaskan was, I think, the .348 necked up to .50 for use on the bigger bears in the 71 (and 1886) Winchester lever actions.  Not much neck left. .450 Alaskan was, necked to .458. Pressures were not hot by todays standards/ bolt action standards. .348 was necked up to about everything for this use. (and down).

,38/56 was on the .45/70 rim. Great history. Pressures need to be reasonable in lever actions. Siam Mauser or P-14/M-17 and you can get more "warm." Luck.
