Mauser pics...

John T.  you asked about pics of the Mauser I had so many questions about, well if I can figure this pc out, here they are.
Anyone else that has any info or comments on this rifle, it would be helpful.

Looks like some one sporterized a 93 mauser.
If you get a better picture of the crest I can tell you more as well as any other marks that look like arrows or crests.  To make it stand out better in the picture pit some white out on the stamps and wipe your finger over the marks.  The white out will fill in the mark and comes out easily.
What I have looked up in the Mauser Book It looks like it is a Oviedo Spanish Rifle that has been cut down and the safety has been replaces with one that will work with a scope.

What are you going to do with it?
Mount as scope and use it for Deer and plinking or are you going to try to find all the stuff to make it back to Military specs?  If so great project, but holly cow will it be expensive.

I'm I low Tech Redneck and I have no Idea how to post a picture here.  So don't take what I type as any indication your doing a bad job.

BCD is WWII ordnance code for Wilhelm Gustloff- Werke.  Who made the receiver in 1942.
BYS is Ruhrstahl in witten germany.  Where is this stamp?
as to the 2 9 41 where is it.  If it is a date on the barrel it was made on September 2 nd of 1941.  Day month year in Europe.
The mod 98 refers to the model 98k rifle of WWII.

bys  ... Is on the barrel behind the back site in front of bolt.....2 9 41  ......Is right beside before the bys

The barrel may have been furnished by one manufacturer and the receiver by another and assembled there. 
It also could be a Frankenstein where the barrel of one was mate to the action of another either bu the Germans due to battle field damage or later by the one who sporterized the gun.
Don't know as the Gunmarks book does not go into depth what the company made.
Look for other marks.  I saw the eagle acceptance marks but are there other marks like an X that would tell us more about the rifle and if it was arsenal refurbished or was a captured rifle.  The X is actually crossed Russian rifles that shows the rifle was captured and reissued to the Russian army.
You wish there was a Rifle Whisperer that could tell what and where a rifle has been.
