7mm-08
« on: September 13, 2007, 03:05:54 AM »
I looked at the FAQs and it says that the twist rate for the 7mm-08 is 1:10.  I measured mine and it looks like 1:9.    Of you guys with 7mm-08s what weight bullet has done best?

How often do you have to shim an accessory barrel that was fitted by the factory?  It looks like this 7mm-08 needs about .003" shim.  The original 223 barrel shoots real well and fits real tight, but for some reason they could not get this one to.  It shot about a 2-3" group.  We will have to see what the shim does.

If you have a factory fitted barrel that's loose, send it back to H&R for repair, most, if not all do so, save the shims for 2nd hand barrels. ;)

I did that the first time.  This is the second loose 7mm-08 barrel.  The first was even worse.

I'd contact them and ask for help, be nice and explain what's happened, they'll make it right.  ;)
