What are your Pet Loads for the .30-40 Krag?
« on: September 18, 2007, 02:51:30 AM »
Hi Guys,

I have a Ruger #3 that I want to take Antelope hunting in a few weeks.  It has a 2 x 7 Leupold and is very accurate with 180 and 200 grain bullets.  I need a good hot load for 150 grain bullets that gives me a little more range for some more long range shooting.  I've tried IMR 4064 and it shows a lot of promise.  The #3 is very strong and I have no pressure indications with the 4064 even with the hottest loads. I get 1" groups from the heavier bullets and I want the same from the 150's.  It doesn't take much to down a prairie goat except accuracy.  What would be your favorite powder and bullet combo for this type shooting?  Thanks BT 53
