Rem. 700 Mountain Rifle advice needed

Well i`ve done it now. My brand new .270 Mountain Rifle had a trigger that was so heavy it took two fingers to pull it ( not really ). Anyhow I tried to adjust it and it has so much overtravel and grit I really hate it now. So does anyone have any advice on getting it back the way it was and start over. I read a post on the Rem. 700 triggers and Mr. Greybeard states the only screw that needs adjusted is the weight screw. After doing my tweak on it i`m inclinded to agree with him. So any help on getting it to a resonable 3 - 4 lbs. would be greatly appreciated. Also how can I get it a little smoother.
Thanks to all,
Burch

Look on the Gunsmith Forum. Jim the Moderator there has given a real clear set on instructions on it just recently to someone asking about how to adjust the R700 trigger. It should be on the first page for sure and likely in the top 10-12 threads on that forum. Jim is a mostly retired gunsmith and is the man to ask but as I said he has the instructions already there in a post to another member.
I'm convinced the average gun owner/tinkerer has no business messing with those other two screws but some folks just gotta. I never have and don't expect to ever mess with those two.

i adjusted mine with no problem. although i messed up when i first started at it. i adjusted the sear too much but i found instrustions on the internet and its now at 2 1/2 and its not gritty. also use dry lubercant to reduce grit. i found this website last year and it gives detailed instructions and what not to do!!!

don't screw with the sear engagement if you do not know what your doing!!!! it can cause the gun to fire when its in fire and the bolt gets closed. i would take it to a smith if you do not know what your doing
