Handi's are addictive!!!

I am going through my second bout with the Big C and even with insurance it is expensive. I sold or am selling off all my bolt guns and pistols except for the ones I leave for my son and since my health still allows I have bought a few Handi's. I'm having more fun shooting and fixing up these little rifles than I could imagine. I'm going to leave them for my grandson if I ever get one. I have a .243 Ultra Fluted(my first) a 35 Whelen that I'm getting there with, a Superlight that Wayne is re-chambering to .218 Bee, and a .308 Survivor that I will be making into a full mannlicher Stinger and hope to re-bore and chamber to .358. A lot of you have wished me luck in the Montana Bison drawing and I've been to the H&R site at least 10 times looking at the Buff classic and the 38-55 Target. This is a fun addiction with a great community of people. Thanks for letting me in. - F50

You will find more good, honest down to earth people here than you will anyplace I have found on the net. They help, they offer insight, they pray, they buy, they sell, they make the world a little better place.

It's easy to get addicted to these little rifles...and I agree...we have a great support group here with a lot of good honest caring people...We work hard to keep it this way...and will continue to do so for as long as Greybeard allows us to stay...
Your in good company with your addiction...and we all pray that you are victorious with your battle with cancer

As far as I can tell
everyone
is welcome. Some with no experience at all some with extensive knowledge, and a lot of people in between. Questions are asked and most get several opinions on what to do or buy. Some times we have "discussions", but they are well intentioned. Once in a while someone gets offended, but like I said for the MOST part everyone is very helpful. If someone gets out of line too much or too often, then they will get banded from the site. Anyone that has been around here very long learns this, but that is what helps keep people in line here. I have seen other sites and the regulars on there can get down right nasty to a newbie or even one of their own when they do not agree. I think this is the best site by far for the outdoor sport nuts. I think if you hang around long enough you will become more knowledgeable and have a good time with the guys, I do. Just one warning...do not talk down Handi rifles here, you will get put on the straight and narrow quickly.

F50: My dad just started treatment for his second go around with C. My mom passed away last year from it. I wish my dad had a hobby or something to keep him busy other than work. He is 77 and still working full time, he enjoys work but he needs something that he could use to divert his attention. We live about 14 hours apart so it is hard to help out much. Phone calls a couple of times a week are the best I can do right now.
Hang in there, you have our prayers in your behalf. Enjoy the good days and may you have many more.

Not only are Handis addictive, but GBO is too, and as LaOttto said, everyone is welcome, the more the merrier!!
Members here most often become part of the GBO family the longer they're here, and it's due to this site being provided by Graybeard as a welcome haven for anyone interested in sharing and learning, and stands apart from the usual internet sites, no other site that I've visited gives me the pleasure that I enjoy here, and I'm proud to be a part of this family and the members.

I just got back from the rifle range. I had my Handi with four barrels. I had my Tracker 1 Smoothbore in 20 ga. and a .30-30 insert. I just had a ball. Some of the guys came over and started drooling over my little armory. I was shooting my .30-30 with a 4x Weaver. I had zeroed it in with the 170 gr Noslers. Today I shot 150 Remington corelokts - very nice groups. I switched to my .223 with a 6x Tasco. I had zeroed in at 25 yards last time so I had moved the target out to 50 yards (the back have of the range is plowed up now. Still, nice tight groups. Then I switched to my .45/70 with iron sights. Windage-wise - dead on. Had to adjust the elevation as it was two inches low but the rounds were touching in the group. Then I had a little struggle with my .243 barrel. It wears iron sights and is 20 inches long. I put up a clean target at 20 yards to find out where it was hitting. Once I got found the group, then I began adjusting. Then I ran out of bullets.
The 20 gauge tracker was on the money windage-wise. The only adjustments were elevation. At 50 yards the groups were between 1" and 1 1/2" using Remington Sluggers - not bad for iron sights. The .30-30 insert shot an inch higher and to the left by an inch. Then I ran out of bullets.
That is a problem with the Handi's - they use up all your bullets

Don't feel bad about the 243 Superlight barrel, they can try your patience for sure, you aren't the first or the last to be in that boat, but it'll come around when you find the right load, keeping the barrel cool and not shooting too many shots close together is one key that most everyone will agree to. Mine will put the first two close together at 100yds, but the third opens the group to about 1½-2" with handloads.
