My "new" SB2 Ultra...
« on: September 13, 2007, 06:01:27 PM »
Had no idea I was in the market for one but I had one fall in my lap this evening. Like new, .308 Winchester, Cheapo Simmons 8-point 3x9, Allen Neoprene Sling, buttstock shell holder, one box of WW-Ballistic Silvertips. Guy swears it will do under 2" @100 yards.  How did I do on the price of $200?  2" groups are nothing to brag about, but hopefully I can do a bit of work toward tightening these a bit.  I think the one thing that caused my impulse buy is the laminated stock and forearm on this rifle!  Sure does look sweet!  The metal finishing ain't too shabby either!

I really like the laminated stocks. My wife thinks my Ultra is one of my better looking guns and I have a few. I think your $200 was a good buy, wish I could get one for that price. They are around $250 new and you do not get anything else. ;) BTW 2" @100 gets you easily into the vitals of a deer at 200 yards. I think you could probably do better unless the guy has already done everything to it (unlikely).

He may have only shot one type of ammo out of it. I think the thing to do is to polish the bore with Flitz. Then try a few different brands and weight bullets.   Dale

Sounds like a good deal to me. I think you might do better if you had better glass on it.

Thanks for all the replies. Yep, If I keep it, new glass will be a must.  Never owned a Nikon, may give a Buckmaster a try.  Problem is, I just had my FFL buddy order a 30-30 for me so I can take advantage of all the brass, powder etc that I have.  Since I'll be using spitzers in the 3030, I wonder if the 308 wil be redundant.  WTH, guess a man can't own too many toys!
