338 JDJ#2
« on: September 17, 2007, 04:48:29 PM »
I've got an SSK 338 JDJ#2 barrel for my Contender that is 14" long, with a hard chrome finish and is Mag-Na-Ported. I've had this barrel for several years and it has been absolutely devastating on whitetails with the original red & green box, 200 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips. J.D.Jones said that Nosler made the bullet tougher due to complaints of bullet blow up with the 338 Win. Mag shooters, not long after the introduction of this bullet.
I was hoping that some of the bullet manufacturers would make some bullets especially for the 338 Federal, this would make an ideal bullet for the 338 JDJ#2.
I've still got about 200 of the original Ballistic Tips but was wondering what bullet you have used on whitetails with good success?
GOOD SHOOTING!

The Hornady 200 gr. Spirepoint is accurate and absolutely devastating on Whitetails from the .338 JDJ no. 2, when run @ 2250-2300 fps, which is easy to achieve from a 14" barrel with AA 2520.

Thanks Ken! Back in the early to mid 90's I worked up a load with the Hornady 200 Spire Point and my brother in law used it to take a hog. He hit it tight behind the shoulder and it came out behind the off shoulder the hog made about three steps and went down. My brother in-law was amazed with the performance and told me that day that he wanted to buy my barrel.
I think I may still have some of those bullets!
Thanks again & GOOD SHOOTING!
