Why do you like the .22 Hornet?

Let me know why you like it, why you don’t, or if you feel there are better alternatives.

Thanks!

The 22 Hornet is fun. It is cheap to reload for, one pound of powder lasts a looong time. The effective range is 150 - 200 yards so will handle up to coyote size to that range. It is generally accurate. It is fun. No or little recoil. You can buy ammo just about any where. It does not erode throats very much so it has a long life. Nostalgia, they have been around a long time. Did I mention they are fun? ;D

I love everything about the 22 hornet except for the fact that I don't have one.
The perfect walking varmint\predator round.

Everything LaOTTO said except its more fun. By far my most used caliber. Rides in the truck with me everywhere. For a cab gun I can see nothing better.

ditto on what LaOtto said. i have 2, one handi, one savage. both are very accurate, in fact the savage is the most accurate rifle i own. averages in the .1's whith handloads. handi stays under .5 inches. if nothing else they are extremely fun.

Although my Hornet is a Savage 24F .22 Hornet/20gauge and not a Handi I will first have to say it is, for lack of a better word fun. I'm looking for an old style Handi in the Hornet round.

Gets the job done on everything from tin cans to groundhogs. It is also "neighbor friendly", nice and quiet. I got permission to hunt groundhogs on a nearby farm. Bought a 223 to take advantage of some long shots possible there. The first day I used it there I was told no more "high power" rifles, the wife objected. Back to the 22 hornet, no problems ;D

I have a couple of them.  One a pre war Winchester M-70 S.G. and a modified Handi.

They are ideal for walking woodchuck / fox hunting.

Fun to shoot.

Easy and inexpensive to reload for.

Capable of 5 shot moa @ 100 in low wind.

Have considerable more power/range  for larger woodchuck type varmints than rim fire mags.

i have had that rifle in some local non sanctioned  competitions. and i have won with it. but first and foremost over everything else is hunting rifle. that is why i bought it and that is what it shall stay. i dont want to get back into competitive shooting, takes away from why i really do this stuff. i dont want to putting stress into my favorite stress relieving activity.
