Custom 44 mag barrel
« on: September 18, 2007, 04:50:26 AM »
I bought this from Weldon (Ditchdigger) and he delivered it over the weekend.  This barrel appears to be a stub made from a 410 barrel. It is not drilled and tapped for a scope mount but has good open sights.  It has a good tight chamber and appropriate bore size for the 44 mag.  I mounted it on a SB2 receiver with shotgun stocks.  The gun handles well and would serve me well if I am ever charged by an armadillo or possum.  It comes up and mounts well.  I did not measure the twist but appears to be fairly slow.  I have very bad eyes for open sights but I had a couple of boxes of lead 240 grain SWC over 8 grains of Unique that I took to the creek.  I sat up on a high bank and shot in a mud bank at about 25 yards and the gun shot very good.  I could hit sticks and leafs in the mud at will.  I am guessing it would shoot in the inch range at 25 yards on paper with open sights and my eyes.  I bought this barrel because i have a ton...well a couple of hundred pounds of 44 mag ammo.  This is the right gun to turn that pile of ammo into reloadable brass.
