Otis cleaning kits and boresnakes

I know that cleaning is very prone to damaging crowns and muzzles (especially with pull throughs). 

Has anyone used either of these items?

Is the Otis kit just braided wire?  From the picture that is what it looks like.  Is it coated?

The Otis pull thru is nylon coated cable, it's all I've used on my BLR since I bought it new in 1983, it still shoots moa as it always has. ;)

Darn Tim you beat me to it, I was going to say roughly the same thing.  Anyway I also use a brass Muzzle protector on my guns that I have to clean from the muzzle end. (Semi-autos, pumps, and muzzleloaders).

 I have an Otis "Whole kit and caboodle" and it works great. Shortly after seeing it work I also tried a homemade version on my air rifles. I took  piece of weed wacker string, cut it to the proper length, then took one end and burned it ever so slightly with a match. That causes a little nub to form on the end that will hold the patch. This method won't take a lot of pressure but if you're willing to let the cleaning solution do the work instead of trying to SCRUB the bore it will do OK.

Kit and Caboodle is what mine is too, came in a tin. ;)

You can buy Patchworms that won't come apart like the weed whacker line pull thrus do, they're excellent for cleaning .17 thru .50 cal bores and cost less than $10 shipped with patches, and won't come apart leaving your bore blocked like the weed whacker line may do for you, specially when you double patch!! :o

I use a Boresnake for my Winchester 88 after AKPLS told me about them a number of years ago.  I have no complaints.  Kinda hard to use on my flintlock, though!   ;D
