Degrease those dies!
« on: September 17, 2007, 05:17:09 AM »
I started reloading for my son's .308 yesterday and that meant getting a new set of dies. Every reloader knows you should clean new dies with degreaser.  I didn't do that. The seating die was driving me nuts because I'd seat a bullet, and then the die would pull the bullet right back out! I wrecked a few cases in the process because I thought it was an adjustment problem.

The good news is that cleaning the die with degreaser solved that problem.

I was loading softnose spitzers and apparently whatever was on the die (it seemed clean and dry) made a big difference.

I'd be pretty concerned with that light of Neck Tension.... Might need to polish a lil off the expander ball. ~Ace~

Ace:

I appreciate that! After I got it cleaned and adjusted right, neck tension is fine. Adjusting a new seating die for the first time is my least favorite chore in reloading, but this was the most troublesome ever.
