Flea Market Find
« on: September 24, 2007, 11:47:56 AM »
I went to a Flea Market on the second Sunday in September and was just about to call it quits when I saw a row of Vendors that aren't usually in that section.

While nosing thru alot of junk I spied what I thought was a  old fashioned Grinder.  While looking at the box, I realized it was a older Food Mill.  It was all metal, and had a clamp so you could clamp the thing to the table, and a hand crank to make the thing work.

I asked the guy what he wanted for the 'Mill' and he said $15.  He also said that he sees just about the same thing down in Lancaster Pa, where the Amish and Mennonites shun most modern conveniences that use power or fuel, and down there those food mills sell for about $40.

Well.....

I asked him what is the lowest price he was comfortable with and he said $10.  ( I almost ripped my pants, trying to get the money out )   It turns out the guy I bought it from is a Pilot for a Commercial Airlines, and he has a taste for Homemade wine.  (I had to promise him I would be bringing a bottle of Homemade Raspberry Wine for him and his Wife the next time I go to the Flea Market.)

When I got home, I opened Google and did a search for the 'Victorio Strainer' Model 200 by Vitantonio Mfg Co. of Willoughby Ohio.  I found out that the original company is no longer in business, but the Model 200 Strainer is still available by another company for $84.  While the one I bought is older and made of Pot Metal, the new one is  mostly plastic.  So I think I did alright for $10.

Anyway, within hours I made some homemade tomato sauce from the tomatos in my garden and that Food Mill has already paid dividends.
