45-70 recoil?
« on: September 22, 2007, 10:35:52 AM »
Ok I am not set up to reload and won't be for sometime.
That being said, what factory 45-70 loads seem to have the least amount of recoil?

Any of the 300gr loads from Remington, Winchester or Federal are loaded to trapdoor levels, as are the 405gr Remingtons which have a bit less recoil, pick the one that shoots best. ;)

I find the Remington 405 factory loads to be very pleasant.  The recoil pulse seems not to be as sharp as the 300 grain loadings.

I agree, the 405's seem a bit lighter to me as well.

If your shooting a Handi, you could remove the recoil pad and fill with lead shot and or add a good recoil pad. like a Simms laboratories or a Kick-eez. Both do a GREAT job of removing the sting form any kicking caliber.
