44 mag full rifles
« on: September 16, 2007, 03:02:13 PM »
I was at whittakers today and saw several full rifles in 44 mag.  I thought the factory had quit doing this along with the 357.  Maybe the indiana law changed their minds or something.  Anyway, for anyone thinking about it, he has at least 5 or 6 setting there.  I think they were $209.   Good deal for all you hoosiers out there.

They still list the 44mag rifle on the website, I've never read of it not being available, the 357mag hasn't been listed on the website or in a catalog for several years.

i don't think the 44 mag is going anywhere for a while especially since they qualify as a primitive firearm in mississippi. Hundreds of  4570,44mag,444marlins,3855 are sold since this law change. my local store has around 100 in stock.  Some of the larger stores around Jackson has 500 plus. :o They expect to be sold out by Nov. :o H&R can't meet demand. ???

Indiana law changed this year to allow pistol cartridges for deer of case length less than 1.650"  in rifles. I am sure that is why they have stocked up on them. ;D

For no more than what a handi rifle costs it's a heck of a lot cheaper than shooting a slug gun.  I handload for 44mag and that sure beats $3 per sabot slug.

Now that it seems that H&R has ironed out some of the 44 magnum bugs, it should be a strong seller.  The 44 mag is economic to shoot, whether you reload or buy factory ammunition(compared to irifle ammunition anyway) and it is a capable deer round, so it is a perfect fit with the economical Handi.
