Best 30-06 Loads with IMR4350
« on: September 13, 2007, 12:14:13 PM »
Using IMR4350 , I am planning loading 165gr SSTs with IMR4350. Are there better loads?

57grs +/- .5grs.  If the rifle won't shoot well in that bracket, sell it.

4350 is an excellent powder in the .30-06 with medium to heavy bullets, excellent in all respects except one. Since it is a coarse grained powder it doesn't always meter well. To get around that, set the measure a bit shy, then drop a metered charge on your scale pan and bring it up to weight with a powder trickler. This slows your loading down a bit but you have that extra confidence from knowing your charges are consistent.

RE: Calvon
That is exactly what I do with this powder and Varget that I use. My powder Perfect isn't that perfect with extruded powders.
Thanks for the info, though.

My Savage 110 shoots sub moa groups with 57.0 grains of IMR 4350 off the shooting bench.   Better yet, the terminal ballistics on the deer I killed with this load last year was outstanding.    The 150 grain version of this bullet tended to explode too quickly, but the 165 grain bullet made large entrance, wound channel and exit hole.   All three deer (ranges 45 - 110 yards) collapsed when I pulled the trigger.

Try H4350 if you want a different 4350 powder...works well in the "06."  ;D

I'm with Beeman and several of the others with the 57.0 gr IMR4350 and any good 165gr bullet. When someone brings me an '06 that's not shooting for them the first load I try is that one. I've probably tried it in 15 different 30-06's and every one of them shot it better than anything else the owners ever shot in these rifles. Some of these needed repairs (cracked stocks, muzzle crown damage, or bedding shifts) but after repairs "The Load" always shot great. Like Beeman said if it won't shoot this, sell it.
