Springfield Stevens Model 83 Single Shot.
« on: September 28, 2007, 09:26:31 AM »
I picked one up the other day with a banged up stock and what looks to be a brown finish on the metal like on a muzzleloader even the take down screw is brown. There is no pitting just a smooth brown finish, and it looks cool. Were they made this way?

Also is it possible to mount a scope or a peep on this rifle? It is not grooved and when the bolt is open it is at 90 degrees to the bore.

Otherwise it seems to be in good shape and the trigger is outstanding. For forty bucks I could not pass it up. I will try to post a picture later.

This is the second old single shot I have found this year. The last one was a beat up Marlin 101 that was bought for the princely sum of twnety bucks and has turned out to be a very accurate little gun. I hope the Springfield does as well.

Scott.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

The Model 83 shoots Federal Champions well, but it really likes Remington Shorts, too bad they are not cheap like long rifle fodder is. Now I just need to do something about the sights. I cant really shoot that good out past 40 yards with open sights. I am thinking of adding a Marbles rear sight that has interchangeable blades and peep blades.
