uh-oh,... looks like Fred Thompson won't get the Evangelical vote!

DENVER — James Dobson, one of the nation's most politically influential evangelical Christians, made it clear in a message to friends this week he will not support Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson.

In a private e-mail obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press, Dobson accuses the former Tennessee senator and actor of being weak on the campaign trail and wrong on issues dear to social conservatives.

"Isn't Thompson the candidate who is opposed to a Constitutional amendment to protect marriage, believes there should be 50 different definitions of marriage in the U.S., favors McCain-Feingold, won't talk at all about what he believes, and can't speak his way out of a paper bag on the campaign trail?" Dobson wrote.

"He has no passion, no zeal, and no apparent 'want to.' And yet he is apparently the Great Hope that burns in the breasts of many conservative Christians? Well, not for me, my brothers. Not for me!"

   Ditto Jh45..

It is really comical how people who are obviously NOT Evangelicals..think they have the Evangelical vote all figured out ! ..LOL

Fazak..FYI...I would presume that each Evangelical Christian has his own opinion about politics .

Unlike the liberal political/religious hierarchies...we Evangelicals are allowed our own political opinions !

Let's use the old "gray matter" !

...We may prefer one conservative over another among a group of conservative/values candidates ,
but when it comes to next November and we are presented with the choice of ANY of the competing conservative candidates and Obama/Osama  or having Slick Willy as "first lady"....

Doesn't take much more than a nanosecond to decide whom we will cast our ballot for...
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

Yeah,... that's true, but most evangelicals are pretty strict about the abortion issue, and they're not going to vote for Fred Thompson as a result of his pro abortion lobbying efforts.

That's definitely going to be the deal breaker.

Not at all as Fred Thompson as a lobbiest may have done things that he does not stand for in real life as does most all Lawyers. Your thinking that this is going to affect Thompson is goofy. Right now there is a email going around that the Hildebeast defended a Black Panther. Think this will bother her chances I doubt it. Most folks know what lawyers and lobbiest do. Furthermore most Christians if they hear fred Thompson say he is Pro Life will vote for him over a Demoncrat that says they are pro abortion.

Fazak I do not have to overwelm this forum with Pro Thompson post unlike you with the pro Paul stuff like Ironglow said we all know how to make our own decision come Nov 08.

It's early.

You'll see it when the campaign starts getting heated up. It's already started.

Maybe not in the GOP nomination,.... but I wouldn't be surprised to see Dr Paul mount a 3rd party candidacy.

It wouldn't be right for him to deny the people an opportunity to vote for him in the election just because he was dismissed by the tattered remnants of the GOP.

Who is James Dobson? Is he part of moveon.org? Never heard of the guy so don't mean much to me.
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

  Yup Fazak;

In a close election, Ron Paul could possibly get Hillary or Obama/Osama elected..

He could help install the gun-grabbers and tax-you-to-death socialists at the helm....

Seems like that would fit his character..being  AGAINST everything and positive about virtually nothing...

If I don't vote for Fred Thompson, then I won't vote at all.  If he hadn't decided to run I wasn't going to vote.

Sounds like a very good reason to vote for Fred.  If the protestant pope don't like him, that's a good thing.

Evangelical Christians have NO pope or any version of him ! What in the world is your source of information ?

..Better tap another source, because that one is extremely inaccurate !

We Evangelicals will have no king..but Jesus ! (A battle cry of the Revolutionary war)

Even the Eastern "Orthodox" Churches don't have a pope..that is one of the major "flies in the ointment" between the eastern and the Roman branches..

1.  He's a Skeet shooter (I know this first hand, I've seen him shooting skeet at the Andrews AFB Range).  And he's pro Second Amendment.

2.  I like his stand on closing the border.

3.  I liked the way he did not take any BS during the commitee meetings he chaired in DC.

Unless something changes, he's got my vote.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

"Thompson, who makes a point of visiting gun shops and gun shows in early voting states, received a warmer reception from the audience of about 500 people, some of whom stood and cheered when he said: "Our basic rights come from God, not from government."

I doubt anyone here thinks the Pope is the Son of God. However the Pope is the successor to Peter who was chosen by Jesus to be his representative on earth and to found his church.

That is catholic mythology, and not factual or Biblical.  The pope is just a political figure, and he always has been.

Gee in any Bible I read the New Testament pretty much outlines that. Other faiths besides the Catholics follow the New Testament.

That scripture is frequently misinterpreted.  The rock wasn't Peter, it was his revelation.  The pope is just another political figure.  Like any mystical society or lodge the Church has it's trappings, legends, and rituals.

Back to the political discussion.............

Maybe not in the GOP nomination,.... but I wouldn't be surprised to see Dr Paul mount a 3rd party candidacy.

If he wanted a third party candidacy, he should have started that way.

If he hasn't got the clout to take the Republican vote, he shouldn't divide it.

If he does this, than your "prediction" that we could vote for Fred, but we'll get Hillary - will definitely come true.  But it will be Dr. Paul's fault.

We have been down that road about the papal office long ago, over in the "misc religious discussion" forum..although I tend to agree with swampman on that one issue, I won't belabor the point..

I will say just this much; while I appreciate much of what James Dobson says and consider him a wise person..I think much the same of Fred Thompson, from what I know about him .
I wouldn't heed Fred Thompson if he said "ignore James Dobson".... and I would ignore James Dobson if he said " Don't vote for Fred Thompson"..neither one can dictate to me !

The Lord gave each of us a brain and a free will and I believe it is very presumptuous for any man (or woman) be they pope, preacher, politician or king to assume they can tell us WHAT TO THINK !

I am not sure what candidate will get my vote next November..but I can tell you what KIND of candidate will get my vote next November..

He/she will be very conservative, pro gun, pro life, pro individual freedom, pro traditional family & values, pro American (enough to want the USA to WIN every time), pro capitalism, pro (honest) business, pro free enterprise and pro common sense (as opposed to political correctness)..etc..

A few bonus points may go to a born-again Christian..

I am not committed to Fred Thompson yet, I want to see more of Mike Huckabee and his plans...

Of course, although I am not enamored of some of the Republicans...even the least desireable would be miles ahead of any of the Democrat candidates..

Being from AR., I have seen all of Mike Huckster I want. He is against abortion & is pro-gun, but he is heavy on Social programs, such as "our kids first" that he started here. He is not what you want I can assure you.
