As in many other areas, there are gunshop folks who are helpful, friendly & knowledgable, and then there are those who either act as if they're doing you a favor or will say almost anything just to hear themselves talk.
Then too, we aren't always privy to what's going on behind the scenes.
Once upon a time, I was in an adult night-school business law class with the local area salesman for a major firearms distributor - who, co-incidentaly, was the rep for a few local FFL dealers I am very friendly with.
One of the dealers confided to me that his wholesaler (my classmate, unbeknownst to him) was avoiding taking some of his orders & giving various questionable excuses. (I didn't say he was a "good" salesman)
When I queried my classmate, he told me that a different local dealer - with a much higher volume of business than my other dealer/friend - had told him that he would stop doing business with his distributorship/house if the salesman continued to supply that particular (same town) competitor!
After conferencing with his boss, the salesman/distributor complied with the (underhanded, IMHO) request.
