Mauser experts! What bolts can I use in my 95 chilean action?
« on: September 24, 2007, 04:53:57 PM »
I have a stripped 95 Chilean action I am going to build a rifle out of for my son. Looking on Gun Parts web site I see there is a listing for both a 95 mauser bolt and a 95 chilean mauser bolt. Can I use either? I only ask this because the plain 95 bolt is a bit cheeper and as this will be a sporter, originality of the parts doesn't matter to me.

The plain 95 listing says I has a flat bottom bolt and the one for the Chilean is listed as round bottomed.

billy - get the one for the Chilean action, it will most likely fit properly.  But that means it will most likely fit the action properly but this is a Mauser and Mauser bolts need to be fitted to the action.  I sort of doubt that you can jus drop one Mauser bolt into a Mauser action and have it fit perfectly or within tolerances, or at all.

I understand that matching up Mauser bolts to an action is a gunsmithing skill that requires experience and knowledge.  Without that I believe you take your chances on a proper fit......... Mikey.

The flat bottomed bolt will fit a 93 Mauser and will not fit a 95 Chilean, so buy the 95 Chilean bolt.  Good luck with your project.  Make sure you check the headspace of the bolt to the barrel as these actions do not have the gas deflecting safety provisions of the 98.

I have a very nice complete 1895 Mauser Bolt assembly with a bent down bolt handle that I bought from Numrich Gun Parts Corp. I will sell it to you for $50.00 if you still need one.Best regards...Slusser
