I once read that a bull elephant was taken using a 22Lr with a single shot to the brain by a very knowledgeable elephant person, but that doesn't mean to try it. As a young boy and a young man growing up on a farm it was necessary to dispatch many head of livestock for various reasons, and a single shot in the formentioned location always did the trick. Not one time did I ever have to use a second shot. it is my experience that a shot placed at the bottom of the ear from just about any small caliber will kill an animal very humanely.
