PROBLEMS WITH QUICK CHANGE ENCORE FOREND
« on: October 11, 2007, 08:33:11 AM »
Has anyone had problems with the Encore Quick Change forend, in particular the locking cross bolt shearing in half under recoil and locking forend to the barrel.  I was shooting my 338 Federal barrel from the bench and upon trying to change the barrel, the quarter turn screw for the quick change would rotate but not unlock the forend.  After finally getting it removed I discovered the cross bolt, which is scalloped to allow change the forend, had sheared in half, over course the other half wouldn't turn and kept the forend in locked positions.and being's it's a nylon type material, it just kind of mashed itself into a reall mess.
Phoned TC and sent it back they will replace, but not sure it's good idea on a barrel with much recoil when shot from bench.  I suspect the sling stud caught on my front rest bag and under recoil the  forend tried to stay in place and the stand off stud on the barrel pulled through the nylon cross bolt.  Wish the cross bolt was steel rather than nylon.

Any other experience would be great to hear about.

Thanks
