I loaded and shot some of these some time back when they first came out....I didn't have a canalureing <sp> tool back then and I couldn't get good complete ignition without a good crimp. So I ditched the idea...

Now that I have the canaluering <sp> tool, I have to revisit this!!!

When I saw some guys using these for the .460 S&W, I tried them in my .45-70; case mouth sized in a .45 LC die.
I actually got some respectable accuracy and some screaming velocity.

CW, I have a Lee FCD for crimping, so that won't be an issue. ;)

Joe, what size are those TC bullets, .452", right? I'd like some .430"s to shoot in the .444!! ;D

Yep, they're .452. I have a sneaking suspicion that they snuck out of the Hornady plant and made it over to T/C.......they look just alike: the "bonded" rounds have a thicker jacket.

Tim, take a look at these:

Ummm, they aren't spitzer. :-\ Not that the .444 needs em, but I'd like to try some for fun just to see the difference. ;D

Yeah, the blue tips are probably made for TC, just like Hornady makes different colored tips for the 17hmr bullets.

I put a caliper on one of the bullets, they measure .4525", I tried it in 4 different 45-70 bores, it dropped down the bore of two of em, one of the others took a little thumb pressure to push it in the bore, the last one was tight enought that I didn't want to push it in for fear of not getting it out. :o :o So it depends on the bore how well it would shoot in a bore meant for a  .457"-.458" bullet.

You could shoot'em in a 45-70 but the accuracy results would not be good...they are a tad small as Tim pointed out.

 I found some pics..
Before and after I turned a cannalure on a couple.

Here is the tool. its made by C&H:

Gives a spot on the bullet for the case mouth to "bite" into when you crimp it.

Hornady's new low drag saboted SST bullets are available now in 25 packs, a bit less expensive than the standard SST 20 packs, available in 250gr and 300gr, they're .452" bullets also. ;)
