I just picked up a new M77 mark 2 in a 300 WSM. I took it to the range and it shot a three shot group at 100 yards that I could cover up with a dime. First two shots virtually the same hole, third shot wabled out the hole from the first two shots. This gun is definately a keeper. Thanks ruger

3 shots at 100 yds. from a 30 caliber, brand new barrel, that can be covered with a dime?

Wouldn't question it a bit. Bought a well used VT in 243 and the gun ( not necessarily me) will shoot 1/2 in groups with factory ammo, Federal, off a bipod and backrest.

Yup, I was surprised myself. I was at an indoor range, and the gun was locked in a shooting cradle, so it took the human error out of the picture. You could just cover the holes or I should say hole with a dime. There was a little tattered mark just sticking out the one side of the dime. but still, that is remarkable accuracy in my book. I did have the trigger worked on to drop the pull down to 3 lbs.

I have a Ruger MKII stainless in 7mm Mag that has shot the same way, I think most Rugers shoot well but every now and then you get one that really shoots. Here is a pic of my 7mag that I just had restocked, bedded, free floated, lugs lapped and firing pin centered. My gunsmith told me when I took it to him that he would not do anything to it to hurt its accuracy but thought he could help it a little. It used to be in one of those ugly boatpaddle stocks, I don't know that we helped shoot any better but we sure made it look allot better.The only recommendation I would make to you is have a Timney trigger installed as Ruger MKII's have a sorry trigger in them from the factory.

I have a Ruger M77 MkII myself, chambered in .35 Whelen so I know how accurate they can be. I was just surprised to see results like that from a brand new, not broken-in barrel. My rifle will shoot 1" groups from the bench with factory ammo. (Remington CoreLokt's), I think the gun has potential to shoot better than that with reloads. (I dont reload yet). Congrats on a fine shooting rifle.

I just shot my older M77 Stainless in a Boat paddle type stock,at the range yesterday. I was shooting some reloads made with 147gr. pulled GI bullets, loaded into GI brass with pull-down powder (2230c). Was hitting clay pigeons at 345 meters. I was amazed that I could hit 'em at that range with "machine gun ammo". Ruger sure did something right with this Rifle. I have a bunch of Ruger Rifles but this one might be the best one.

hearing about how good the accuracy is i was planning on buying an M77 Mark2 all weather how is the recoil on the 300wsm is it alot more than the 30-06?

Hello California hunter,
I had a limb saver recoil pad installed on mine. The recoil is in the area of a 06 or 270 not bad at all. you wont be sorry if you get a ruger 300 WSM
