geyger combo in 8x57jr
« on: September 29, 2007, 02:58:10 PM »
A friend just was given a OU Geyger in 8 x 57 JR and 16 ga..  He wants me to clean it.  It is engraved, I don't know what the material is for sure.  What should be used for this?  It has been used, has no case.  The last time it was used was for antelop[e in the 70's according to Joe.  He has one cartridge.  The 2 sources I thought of here in Denver didn't have any of the rimmed J's.  One didn't even know what they were.  Who may have ammo?  Joe doen't reload, I do, but we have to be reasonable about how much he wants to spend.  I am just glad to have the chance to handle this thing.  I have already found reference to RWS, and S& B making it.   Now if we can find some and afford it (Joe is a retiree).  Anyone know of a source of .318 bullets if we go that route?

Thanks in advance,  Kenny

Kenny,
I would suggest you clean it as you would any other firearm.  To clean tarnished material Flitz is one of the best.  Also, for ammo you should check with Ron Reed of Reeds Ammo www.reedsammo.com he is first rate and might have the ammo your looking for.  If not I totally trust him with my reloading.

He might be in the damper at the moment as Oklahoma lost to Colorado.  :o  :o  :o Well Texas lost to K State.  ??? >:(

Also, do you have pictures you could post?

Doug
