Need load data 45-70 encore pistol...
« on: October 26, 2007, 01:38:05 PM »
I purchased 3 boxes of Hornady Leverolution 325 gr ammo all 3 boxes have different muzzle velocities  printed on the box ???
I was going to use these for my encore pistol, but dont see zeroing in a scope for one box will do much good.I am going to pull the bullets and recharge.I need load data for a 325 gr bullet to get about 1800 fps. out of a 15 in. barrel ?

Whats the most accurate load for Encore in 45-70 for 100 yds? Best for deer hunting off the shelf ammo?

The best way to pull those bullets is to load each round in the chamber, align the sights, cock the hammer and squeeze the trigger. Forget what it says on the box. It may or may not be correct. Test the point of impact yourself with a group from each box after sighting in.
With regard to load data, you could probably e-mail Hornady and ask for a sheet of reloading data for that bullet, since it's relatively new as used in their LeverEvolution ammo. However, handloaders will probably find it difficult to duplicate Hornady factory ammo performance specs......different powders, rumored factory drop tubes, etc.
"Best" loads ? Vary amongst guns. I like 400 gr. bullets and IMR 3031...others like H-322..others like 300 gr. bullets. Good handloaders know that testing is required, and several loading manuals need to be consulted for starting points.

ohwoody, I would just shoot the 3 boxes up and then reload them. As far as a good load, only you and your gun will decide what will shoot best out of it. For deer hunting try some 300 gr. to 405 gr. hard cast bullets with gas checks. As far as load data, buy a reloading book and stay in the trapdoor and Marlin load data area.
As for factory rounds, buy a few different boxes and see which one your gun likes. Not all barrels shoot the same, so trial and error is the best advice you can get. Because what works well for me, may not do as good in your gun.

Try a couple round from each box and try them for point of impact. from you normal hunting positions.  I'd say you won't be able to tell the difference.
As to reloading the Speer book has great loading data that goes up to 35000 CUP which is more than safe in the Encore.
REMEMBER the Encore is chambered for the BELTED MAGNUMS so pressure wise they will take alot more.
