I'm Back.. Score 15-2 Snub @ Gunshow
« on: September 17, 2007, 03:44:05 PM »
That's Right I'm Back...
I Sold my 4" 15-2 last year & Have Missed it ever since..
When I was walking the Gunshow I saw a 15-2 2 1/2" that has alot of dings & scrapes with a $275 Tag on it.. I was wearing Packmayr Grippers & Looked Realy Beefy..
At the end of the show my Buddy & I went to the dealer & I aquired the 15-2 snub For $225 & My Buddy scored a Colt Stainless Officers ACP for $573.. Both Decent Deals IMO..
I Then went To My Gunshow Buddy/Dealer that has alot of DW stuff, I have seen this Wood Finger Grooved Square Holed Grip @ Every Gunshow over the last couple of years & Aquired it for My New DW
I'm Not sure yet which feel better but the wood won't snag on clothes like the Rubber does..
Now I need a Holster for the Huge Snub, I assume a Python Snubs Holster would work?
Here's a Couple of Pics Of My New Car Gun, Oh Yeah That's Legal Here In Kentucky.. ;D

What did it look like inside? I bought a barreless model 15 a while back from an auction, and it looked "okay", but actually cleaned up fine. Inside, it was loaded with unburned big round flaked powder, and crunched loudly when cocked. The only change I made was to swap out the square wire trigger return spring it had in it, to the round type all my DW's have had in the past. DA action is a little smoother with the round wire spring. With a barrel I already had, I had a nice functional Model 15 for less than 185 bucks, shipped.

I almost never see sanely priced DW's at gunshows. Last one I saw was a 744, very good condiion. The old guy wanted $750 for it, no tool, no box, etc. I passed.

Mine was fairly Clean Looking Inside when I opened it up, No unburnt powder flakes etc, Yours probably had been used by a reloader & the Rest is History..
I Polished every contact surface inside with Flitz then Mothers Polish & My Dremel Tool.
I replaced the Hammer Spring with a 7.5 lb Wolff Spring + The Trigger Return Spring, The factory spring was Round & had rubbed a rough Gultch in the trigger, I completely reshaped that area with needle files & Polished it up like a Mirror.. I also Honed the Cylinder & polished the charge holes as they looked very rough & had very deep mill marks inside.. No Sticking Cases with 150 rounds Fired so far..
After the Rework I would rate the action as smooth & slick as any Colt I've ever handled..
RANGE REPORT
I shot 100 Remington 125gr Magnums & 50 various 38 Spls Yesterday @ The Range..
After initial Sight adjustment for the Light 125 grainers & distance I was shooting 35-50 yards the DW came on to be one of the Best Shooting Snubs I've ever had the pleasure of shooting, Very Accurate.
I have two S&W Snubs MOD642 & MOD940 & a Ruger SP101 9mm, I'd rate these three as Good Shooters IMO BUT the Dan Wesson 15-2 is a Target Gun for it's short 2 1/2"  barrel lenth, It has to due with the Great Trigger & The Tentioned Barrel design..
I had the targets dancing & could hit whatever I wanted, I also was shooting My Ruger MKII & 10/22 & somehow the DW was as accurate as my MKII, Amazing... I shot several DA 6 shot strings as fast as I could pull the trigger & even with the fierce Magnum Rounds the action being Smooth made shot placement easy..
I'd bet even Grant Cunningham would be pleased with the Great Action I've managed to squeeze from my DW.. I gotta Get myself a Holster for this Snub, Everyone I've tried so far is Too Small. I have alot of Holsters & None of these are even close.. I'm looking for a 2 1/2" Colt Python Holster I assume..
I had a Buddy Contact Me Yesterday about a 15-2 Pistol pack He'd Saw For $600 & was asking me if this was a Deal, I believe it was, But without seeing the Revolver I'm Only Guessing.. I know He Could Sell The extra Barrels Case & accessories & Keep His Favorite Barrel Lenth & The Revolver & still make money..I told Him To Jump On It, He's Probably Picking it up today, Unless someone else Got Lucky..
I'm also Looking For a Smaller Grip For Carry, I've seen a few available...
I'm also Looking To acquire a Barrel Tool a Maybe a 4" or 6" Barrel..
Enjoy

I've never had the cash available at the right time to jump on a pistol pac when one comes up for a decent price, or what is claimed to be "in excellent condition" turns out to be "fair", at best. One looked great on one side, the other was severely pitted.

My "super snubbie" wasn't used extensively, it was just really dirty inside, and out. wear was minimal. The only thing wrong with it was the holes in the cylinder were very rough. I took the dremel tool and polished them up after I got the lead out of them, something that was much harder than I expected it to be, it was like it was glued to them.  I shined up the inside of the frame a little (it was better than most of my previous DW's were, and polished out a rough spot where the hand comes out. It didn't affect anything, it just looked bad, and I always seemed to touch it for some reason. Lockup was fine, not quite as good as my 715 is, but ok. I had a new trigger and hammer ready to go, but there was no visible wear on anything, except the transfer bar, it was shinier than the one on my first Model 15, that I bought used, and put at least 5000 rounds through. I think the previous owner got the moto tool out and shined the blue right off it. I put one of the spares I bought in, and put the polished one into my "desperation" parts pile. When I started thinking about buying a 715/15, I started buying parts off Ebay and gun auction sites, to add to what I kept from my "deal of a lifetime" $50 box of DW parts I bought where I got a complete used gun that I assembled while sitting in a Burger King parking lot after lunch on the way home from buying it at a gun store that was going out of business. I got several barrels and shrouds, and several guns worth of internal parts. I sold most of them, but kept all the springs, hands, plungers, etc needed for two guns. That was in 1981 or so, and I couldn't find them for almost a year, so I bought parts on ebay to replace them in the meantime.

I'm With You HemiRam, I'd never have $600 bills when a deal like this is presented to me..
I've seen a Few pistol Packs in my Time with a Prices Closer to $800-$1200..
Wish I could Get a Box Full of Barrels & accesories for $50.. I know were several goodies are at a Local Gun Store Just gotta Make time to get by there with some Dough.. Junie I'm Coming For Ya!!
The Hand Window on The DW revolvers is Huge, Compaired to S&Ws & I'm sure a bit more rubbish can get in there, Also DWs are know for thier strenth & probobly see more Magnum Use than mild target rounds..
I Still Can't believe I scored My newest One For $225, It Is as You Call It a "SUPER SNUBBIE'
More Accurate than I am with it's Tiny Barrel..GREAT SHOOTER!!
I gotta Get myself a Bigger Barrel & a Barrel Tool.. Gunshows Beware..
Gunny I'll be coming to you Too, Remember that 6" barrel I sold you last year Dude..
I'll be digging through His grip stash looking for a smaller concealed carry grip as well..

I'm also realy happy with my Trigger Job I did on this Revolver, I doubt it could be made much better.
DWs have great SA Triggers & with some smoothing & polishing can also have a great DA Trigger Too, There's some stacking but that's because of the Coiled Mainspring, My J Frame S&Ws have this too were the K/L/N frames don't.. Their Leaf Spring Mainsprings are better for DA Trigger Work, But I've got My DW nearly as Smooth & Slick as any of my other Weapons..

Well after Shooting a Fer Rounds with the Compact factory Wood Grip The Pachmayrs go back on..
I still can't believe how smooth the action is & how light the trigger feels..
Also the Accuracy of this 2 1/2" is Unbelievable compared to my Snubby 642 & 940 S&Ws & Ruger SP101 9mm..

Glad to see it's shooting ok. I'm going to let a local guy reblue my 4" blue shroud, it had a lot of holster wear and appears two almost two toned. I can't complain, it was insanely cheap when I grabbed it years ago at a gunshow, sitting all by itself with a ton of lead in the barrel.
The old guy selling it said, "That barrel tube is all pitted up, but it will shoot ok!" It didn't look like any pits to me, and I grabbed it for $25. About an hour later, the "pits" were out of it, stuck to my lead remover. The barrel was fine actually, not a thing wrong with it. I bought
one of my previous 15's with a pitted barrel, it really didn't seem to affect accuracy at all, and it was obviously pitted, and looked nothing like the one I bought later. This is the way I normally shoot my blue 15, I have a SS cylinder for it too, I bought it along with the complete
crane and ejector off ebay long before I got the gun itself. Yes, that is a 4" SS shroud on it, the blued one is shiny on the muzzle end, the opposite of how the flash lit up the SS one.
