deal or no deal?
« on: October 07, 2007, 11:38:50 AM »
i have a savage 308 heavy barrel model 12 bolt gun
i can trade it and some cash for a new in the box encore stainless pro hunter in 308
should i ?
the savage has an accu trigger and shows potiential
i know the encore can be as accurate if not more so
i have seen one shoot three shots into around 3/8 inch at 200 yards from the bags
now i know all guns are different performers but i dont know what i want to do
whichever i decide on will be used for deer hunting and target shooting
the encore seems to feel better in my hand and is lighter
i just cant decide
any help on this would be appreciated
thanks

I'm not a Savage fan at all and own NONE at this time and have owned almost none period. But no I'd not make such a deal.

Depends on if you want one shot more.  The encore has the option of other barrels and muzzle loading barrels.  You can even convert it to a single shot pistol.    I have a stainless encore in 243 and 50 cal muzzy It is a very accurate gun if you have problems TC customer service is next to none.  I guess I would keep your savage as you know the gun and do a little investigating on the encore.  It seems you will not be gaining much.

The Encore does offer more versatility -- if you like that sort of set-up. But I have a Savage Model 10 FP-LE2 with a 20" bull barrel in .308 WCF that's the single most accurate bolt action factory rifle that I've ever owned.

I love my Encores, so I'd say keep the Savage, stash a few bucks every week and splurge for the Encore.

You'll get the best of both worlds that way...

trade the savage for the encore. the encore will be better in the long run it will hold its value and its interchanble

I would go with the Encore without a doubt. Now had you said you had a Tikka, Sako, Browning A bolt or another rifle, I would of told you to stay with them. I don't have nothing agents the Savage, I own a few of them, but in my opinion the Encore is better deal and will hold it's value over the Savage. Just look at the resale value of a Savage and you and I would both bewildered over the lack of value they hold.
