Norway mortar

Here is a picture of a good looking mortar that one of my Sons made while on TDY in Trondheim, Norway. This is a large mortar with a bore of around 7-8 inches. Interesting treatment of the breech area.

That is an interesting looking mortar all around. Kinda looks like it could be
a bit of a backbreaker in weight, tho. It looks as if the bed has taken a
beating from the looks of the split wood from the lack of reinforcement.
It kind of looks like another kind of gun in the background. Looks like a
shadow of a cannon barrel on the ground.

The mortar bed probably was constructed along the lines on an original but small pieces of wood were used for ease of construction. The bed appears to be glued together and is missing most of the hardware.

Ex 49'er, Good eye when you can spot a cannon by just a small shadow. My Wife calls that rare but wonderful ability "Cannon on the brain".

Here is a picture of one of the pieces in the background. I think they are a pair of howitzers. Boy, You guys sure have Eagle eyes. This is the last picture I have of this group.

That's a very interesting weapon, I'll call it a howitzer due to the exterior, but I don't know what it is technically since I can't see inside, I don't think I've seen another piece just like it. 

The royal cypher on the chase appears to be that of Christian 5,  King af Denmark · Norway 1670-99, so we can date the piece fairly accurately without knowing what the rest of the marks are.  Look at how far forward the trunnions are.
