No sir, haven't purchased anything yet. Not sure what route to go, but likely I'll do a Lyman rifle of some sort. I have plenty of time: I have so many preference points combined with limited time (one big hunt a year) that I'll do antelope centerfire next year, followed by either deer or elk the next couple years.....I can pick the choice of the choice hunts, then start back at zero.
I live in NW Oregon where there should be tons of animals, but due to the stupid bubbas poaching at night and the predation, there aren't many animals around this year. Last year this time I had several bucks on my little farm every day; this year, none. I went out on a cooperative detail with a law enf agency recently working after dark in the area around where I live; what goes on when you and I leave the woods as hunters would leave you SHOCKED. I always thought I could do western rifle on the years I didn't draw a tag; those days appear gone sad to say, at least on public or timber co. prop open to the public. I have a western tag but can't get out the door to save my life (newborn in the house), so probably pass on elk too this year. Muzzleloading would get me away about every other year it appears, and if we go out of state, it could be an every year thing. I have a great place to shoot and learn 365 days a year all to myself....so just starting to get things figured out.
Give your logged off area a year.....I would think with new growth and the thing quieting down you may well have the elk right back in there.
Good luck!
