Used Handis sell for $125 to $175, but new ones don't cost much more, so keep that in mind. ;)

I was on a tour of our local Duck Hill today and saw a Handi in 44 Magnum It had a price of $299.95 on the tag :o :o :o I know that deer season is upon us and Indiana just passed their law for pistol cartridges for deer, but WOW.

If you have a Walmart that still sells firearms, they're even less...

The local Walmart quit selling guns last spring. I tried to get on their site to find out which locations sell guns, but I could not find anything helpful there. I heard that one 35 miles to the North still sells guns, but I haven't made it up there to confirm it yet and even if they did, they may no longer sell them. I understand they are phasing stores out, not doing it all at once. Our local Walmart sold guns past the time some of them did. I ordered several guns through Walmart including my Ultra. Do you know of a place(site) to see which stores still sell guns? It chaps my hide to pay $300 + tax for a plain Handi.

I'd use their store finder and let your fingers do the walking to see if any of em still sell guns.  ;)

Thanks Tim. I found that same one. I guess I will have to call around to find out. The $300 is way above suggested retail. They had a 45 carbine for $350, a much better buy, go figure.

Read on another forum about the reasoning behind Walmart not selling guns, and it is supposed to be all about marketing.

Selling only items that are in high demand for certain areas.

Just about all the Walmarts in San Antonio, Texas have stopped selling guns, and only certain ones in the outlying rural towns, where ranchers and hunters shop, is where the stores still have a well stocked gun rack, and shooting supplies.

I found a super Walmart in a small town about 30 miles from the city limits that still carried and ordered guns, so look at those rural stores, when you start searching your area for stores that still order, and stock guns!

My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Graybeard - Walmart is not going out of their way to make getting a rifle through them easy. I tried to find what else they offered, and had to play "hide and seek". The only link to the .22Hornet is the one you gave.

NEF/H&R .35 Whelen (thought that was dropped?) :
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4665478

(mumble, mumble) Single shots on the semi-auto, bolt, and lever action pages?? The muzzle loader only shows up as a bolt action???

LaOtto - What sort of .45 Carbine was that?

Jimbo, just take a look at the Walmart hardware section. They don't carry much of the staples, and (from talking to an ex-manager who was not happy with the chain) decisions to stock are not made locally. He had a bunch of stuff dumped on him that sold very well "in this region", but I'm guessing this  location was stuck in the region for administrative purposes because he caught all sorts of grief for not selling stuff that no one wants to buy here.

The 35 Whelen was discontinued, just like the 7.62x39 that they have listed.

The 45 Colt Carbine...
