Ruger M77 Hawkeye misfire
« on: March 13, 2009, 10:12:45 AM »
I was reloading some 30-06 rounds the other night for my Hawkeye and I had made up a dummy round, no powder or primer, I put the dummy round in the chamber and closed the bolt.  that's when I heard the firing pin go off just like I had pulled the trigger.  Have any of you heard of any problems with these rifles doing this?  If that had been a live round, I would have a hole in my wall right now and would probably be talking to a divorce lawyer instead of posting on a forum right now.  Any help is appreciated.

I would take it out of the stock and clean up the entire mechanism before you go thinking there is something wrong---I'm betting there is some gunk in there that caused the problem.

Otherwise send it back to Ruger----I've never heard of any problems with any 77 triggers.
