Been a while
« on: October 13, 2007, 10:28:27 AM »
Hi All,
havn't posted for awhile, been recovering from a ACL Knee replacement for the last three months, last week Doc gave me clearance to give my knee a light workout so to celebrate I found the steepest country I could find, hunted to the bottom of the ravine and stalked and shot Mrs piggy with my trusty .243 superlight, 200yd shot "used range finder" uphill off shooting sticks, then carried her for two hours back to the top. Yehaa Doc did a great job on the knee.
Regards Howard.

Congrats on the successful surgery and hunt and welcome back!! ;) Of all the places in the world, New Zealand is one of the few place I'd love to spend some time.

Howard.
Nice to hear from you. I had both knees replaced  last winter, three month apart. Have not been climbing any mountains but been draging behind the
bird dogs. My knees too turned out good. I do a lot of walking  at least one hour a day since I am still lacking strength. Isn't it great to be mobile again.

It sure is good to be walking the hills again, I was hunting on a 2500 hectare farm, Myers Pass, North Otago New Zealand, myself and a couple of friends were primarily hunting Wallibies which we got three, the pig was a bonus, the farmer is only to happy to have responsible hunters on his property as two Wallibies willl eat as much as one sheep and the pigs rip up the grass as you can see what mrs piggy was upto when the 95gr sst plowed into her chest.

Successful surgeries are always good to hear about. I am just a little curious about hunting wallabies and the animal itself. Are they quite a bit smaller than kangaroos? Do you have a season for them?

Wallibies were introduced to New Zealand in the late 1800s from Australia for the fur trade which never took off, they are established in North Otago and a small area around the Rotorua lakes in the North Island, they have no season and are considered a pest by the farmers, A big one will weigh about 40lbs, the .223 is considered the ideal cartridge size to dispatch them. Great fun to hunt and like prime beef to eat.

My dream holiday is to travel New Zealand- fly fishing, surfing, kayaking and now maybe hunting, too.
