Sabertooth Belted Bullets in Huntsman
« on: October 13, 2007, 05:47:35 PM »
It is getting close to black powder season season here in NW Fla and I have been experimenting with a couple of bullets.  I have some 270 grain Sabertooth bullets that look pretty wicked to me and I kind of like the TC Mag Express in a 240 grain.  I also have some Hornady XTP Mags in 300 grain.  I have 50 cal. Huntsman and I use Pyrodex pellets in either 3-30 grain or 2-50 grain loads.  I haven't tried any loose powder yet.

I'm looking forward to some of you more experienced shooters giving me some insight as to bullet selection.  I figure most of my shots would be less than 100 yards the way my food plots are laid out.

I am an experienced muzzle loader hunter but a novice with my Huntsman. I just got it from H&R about three weeks ago. I had two range trips under my belt and then hunted with it all day Saturday for the ML season opener. Alas no deer dared show itself to give me a chance to try it out.

However the bullet I used, worked well at the range and had performed very well on deer before from a CVA Inline. It is from the same company as the Sabertooth(Harvestor Muzzleloading) but it is a Sabot. I use the Scorpion Funnel point.

I killed two deer with this bullet and the results were great. The crush rib sabot make them load easily and they have been accurate for me.

I really like them as they are reasonable priced, less than $9.00 for 30, and this lets me shoot enough of them at the range to stay proficent without breaking the bank. I have a hard time paying $1.00 per bullet like some cost.

Give the Sabertooths a try to see if you and your gun like them, if not maybe give the Scorpion a try.

Good luck!
