Fred:
I don't like to spend money on ammo, especially not as much as HMR's cost. That's the main reason I go with centerfires so I can load 'em the way I want. I enjoy reloading, and this is my first custom cartridge so am having a ball making case's from something else.
Some yrs ago a fellow came out to hunt elk with me from Wisc. Brought two boxes of each cal in the then new mag loadings: 243, 7mmag, 300win, and '06. Since I flat refuse to shoot factory ammo I took them to the store and swapped 'em at his cost for reloading supplies. Those 80 rounds paid for enough supplies to load 3 or 400 rounds of homebrews.
Update on the .17x28mm based on the 5.7 case.
Got it back from the fellow in Reno that reamed the neck out to .203" like it should be and the ejection wouldn't work right. Shipped it off to one of our gunnie posters on this board for touching up. Tell's me by e'mail it's nearly fixed and looking good. should be sending it back within a week. Am looking fwd to shooting it this time with some faith it'll work right.
Haven't made the deals yet, we're working on the details now for another few hundred 5.7 cases on ammobrasstrader.com. IF you guys haven't been on there yet, you're missing out on a good forum to swap off what you have and don't use for things you do and need.
GLW: thanks for the sample's that time.
wish you all well,
George
