I may be wrong here, but the 7-30 Waters is 0.284"  You can patch them and they'll shoot, but I suspect it may be too big of a gap to be accurate. The proof is in the pudding though and it wouldn't hurt anything to try.  Try some thick. 25 lb. paper (copy machine) and measure two wraps to see what you get.

Are you saying I could use 308 bullets in my 303Brit, by paper patching?  (The 308 bullets will still engage the 303 rifling but gas leak would be an issue and so would bearing surface for proper alignment - for the bullets I would like to try).

Have you considered a mouldable cotton paper to make a sabot?  I read somewhere that arts and craft shops sell cotton paper pulp for moulding into whatever arts people do with it.  You know, I have an arts type sister-in-law.  I shall ask her about it.

303Guy, , a few years ago I was playing around with my SMLE trying to patch for it.  I was using a 308 bullet and cigarette papers.  I got interested in other things and left it.  I'm not convinced I was using the right powder and I am certain the  paper I was using wasn't the best choice either.  If I get around to doing it again, I'm going to try some 9 lb. paper and see what happens.  If you work out the right combination, post it here and I'll see if it shoots in mine. Two wraps of 15 lb. paper gives my about 0.008".  I figure the 9 lb paper should take up just about the right amount of room to allow the 308 bullet.
