Savage 320e 22 hornet barrel question.

  A year ago, I purchased a savage 340 in 22 hornet for $220, it's in great shape overall, but the riflings are pitted out pretty bad. I figured I could find a new barrel for it and that would be that, but after a year of searching, I have yet to find one.  Savage apparently still makes them for the 223 and 222 (and I found them for around $50), but not for the 22hornet.  My question for you guys is, could I perhaps phone savage and order one of the 22cal barrels that hasn't been chambered?  Would these barrels fit my action?  I'm not sure how much a chambering job costs, but I got the gun cheap enough that I think it would be worth the expense.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Yes, if Savage will sell one to you. You might have to have a gunsmith order it for you, as it may be a restricted part(by Savage).

The bore dimensions are the same, it's just the twist that will most probably be different - but not necessarily a deal breaker, if you handload.

I maybe out of touch, but a typical chambering/headspacing job used to run less than $50.

the threads on those savages are not the same as the new ones . But a good smith can thread and chamber up a hornet for you . you cheep route to go is get a A&B barrel blank and then have the smith chamber and thread and you then can loose the savage barrel nut . And a good smith will prob charge you around 170$ for the chamber and thread and the older savage 340 series might charge more because of the different threads , it can be done but your looking at the same cost to more than what you paid for the rifle.
How does it shoot now ?
are you handloading for it ?
Another option is to just trade it in on a new savage 40 hv single shot
