Coupla nice fall toms......
« on: October 04, 2007, 02:06:04 PM »
spotted a group of four toms last week several times on my way to work in the morning. Friday afternoon I stopped and talked to the landowner about the possibility of hunting them. He said " sure, go ahead. I'll warn you tho....the neighbor has been chasin' em around since the season opened and has shot at 'em several times. He aint tagged any yet, but two weeks ago there was five of 'em. Lately we've only been seeing those four. Good luck! "

I thanked him and then went out lookin for their roost I figured since it was just after sunup when I was seeing them that week that their roost must be close to that area. I found some large pines on the side of the bluff with lots of scratchins around, so I quickly and quietly made a small makeshift blind between there and the field and then went home and called my huntin' buddy. I started callin' when I heard the first one fly down  the next morning and within' twenty  minutes we had all four of em in front of us. I believe they were still lookin' for that lost brother.  When I heard my buddy release his bow at the one on the right I pulled the trigger on the one on the left. Both were mature toms with heavy 9" beards, but their spurrs were only about an inch. Got back to the van just before the sky opened up.

"where'd you get the gun....son?"
