Where are the .308 M/E's ?

I was at the range over the weekend and I ran into one of you Marlin Pro's.

I asked him about what ever happened to the new .308 that Marlin was supposed to come out with.

He told me that Marlin has problems with both the ammo and the way it feeds between the magazine and the bore.  He claims that Marlin made 10 .308's so far, 3 are on the gun show circuit and 7 are in the hands of people who will rate them in the rags.

His claim about ammo is that the rim of the new 308 hasn't made it compatible to the Marlin Lever so far and there is big problems the way the cam moves everything.  So far the new 308 jams during loading.

Is this basically what is holding up the introductory sales of this new cartridge?  Or am I hearing wrong?

that was no "Marlin Expert" you met.
The 308Marlin Express is out and doing very well.
The ammo is available. The rifles are available. I think there are 3 or 4 on gunbroker.com now. Typical price is $499.
My local gunstore has one on the shelf, he wants $525.

I'd say the guy was anything but an expert on the subject.

I hope you had hip waders on, because the BS was pretty deep. This "expert" sounds like he didn't know his rectum from a hole in the ground. The 308MX and 308MXLR have been out since probably about April. I got my 308MX in June and I picked up a 308MXLR in Aug. There is nothing wrong with the rifles or the ammo. As a matter of fact I stopped by Hornady on my way out to Utah elk hunting and gave Steve Hornady a pic of a group that I shot at 517 yards at was about 1.75 inch group. The very first 100 yard group out of my MX put 5 shots in a group that you could cover with a dime.

I have shot a deer with the 308MX at 365 yards and an elk at 178 yards. The rifle is the real deal and they are available. I have not heard of any feeding problems and have not experienced any.

This group was shot at 517 yards. I was down to 2 shot groups to save on ammo. I was getting ready to leave for Utah and my other ammo was on back order, thus the 2 shot groups.



I would say that the "expert" needs to do a little better research.

First of all, I just happened to have my .30-06 MR-7 with me that day, and when I pulled it out of my car and held it up and asked him "do you know what this is", he looked it over and labled it everything from a Remington, to a Winchester, to a Mauser.  When I showed him the Logo on the rear of the Recoil Pad, he said it was a Remington.  When I told him it was a Marlin, he asked if it was one from the 1950's.  I said "no, it is not a model 55, this one is from the 1990's".

So, even though he did sound like he could have info about the .308 M/E, I thought it would be best to ask here, since he really didn't appear to know all that much about Marlins after talking to him.   

He did have a Marlin from somewhere around 1936 with him.  It was a beauty too.
