Youth Season
« on: October 13, 2007, 05:30:28 AM »
Is in our zone one next weekend.  It is the second time my 11 year old will go and hold the gun all by himself.  I sure hope he gets one this year.  He was blanked in 06 but was able to shoot at several, the good news is no cripples.

Last year he only shot about six feet high or behind, so the ducks probably don't need to worry this year either.  Before last year, I would point the gun but make him hold it and pull the trigger.  I don't know if you guys have ever done that but it is hard to do with an young one in your lap.

Anyone else taking (or have gone) their kids out on youth season this year?  If you already have, any success?

Hey Specklebelly, here in michigan, our youth duck season has past. Ours was held in September.......15,16th.
I have personally taken kids out to hunt,as my partner gets them involved in duck hunting. We always have a great time and the kids are priceless. This year I felt bad as I didn't get to take anyone. Our sucsess rate was real good up untill this year,as we ,my partner and I, didn't take anyone out. There is a certian magic in the air at that time, that we missed out on.
I hope your hunt was special, and that your youngster learned lessons from you that will never be forgotten.

My son and I went scouting today, and all I can say is WOW  :o.  The water was a little low, but ducks were there by the hundreds.

They were not very wary.  We kept jumping them up while walking along the shore.  The lab was going crazy chasing after them and trying to catch one.

She did catch up to a pelican that she caught off guard.  I wouldn't let her get too close to it as I didn't want her to hurt it, but it was sure mad at my dog.  I never really heard them before but the big bird was "yelling" and trying to act aggressive to her.

My son is excited about Saturday morning.  I will let you know how we do.

He did it.  We went out this afternoon and my boy shot a blue wing teal.  He first one all by himself.

One shot, one duck.  That's the way to do it.
