405gr 45/70

Ha has anyone ever sized a 405gr or a 500 gr lead bullet meant for a 45/70 and slipped a sabo around it a fired it in a encore?

Not out of an Encore, but out of my Lyman Mustang with an MMP orange sabot made for .458 diameter bullets.  They shot well with 70 grains Pyrodex.

Have also shot 300 grain Remington .458 semi-jacketed hollow points with the orange sabots.  Shot OK also.  See target.

But the 405 grain bullet might work if you can find a sabot to put it in

Well, I had two of the MMP orange sabots made for .458 bullets and some old 405 grain cast (wheel weight) bullets from a Lee aluminum mold.  The bullets still had a coating of Lee Liquid Alox that I applied about ten years ago when I cast the bullets.  Shot them this week end just for kicks.  Here are pictures of the target and the bullets.  Dang, now I've got to buy some more orange sabots.
