Encore 209x50 pistol..
« on: October 24, 2007, 11:02:17 AM »
I just received my 209x50 15" pistol barrel today and was wondering how well they shoot for you?
I will only be shooting up to 50 yards with it so distance is not a concern.

What loads worked best in it?

I won't be able to shoot it for a couple weeks because of prior obligations and that I need to find a rear sight for it as it came with a scope and no rear sight.

This is going to be fun...

I used to own a Custom Shop T/C 209x50 15" barrel (should have kept it.....)

My barrel shot best (out of the loads I tried) with 110 grains of Triple Seven ffg granular powder and a T/C 250 gr. Shock Wave bullet.  With this load, it would do 1.250" for 3 shots at 100 meters (109 yards).

Measured velocity was 1638 fps.

I wished I would have tried Triple Seven fffg granular powder.  This would have given a bit more velocity.

I also tried some Pyrodex in it as well, with the 250 Shock Wave bullet.  Velocity was roughly 100-150 fps less than the T7.  Accuracy wasn't quite as good, but close.

How is the recoil ?

I was thinking about using 50-75 grains with my favorite XTP 300 grain bullet

Recoil isn't bad, at least to me.  I am not normally sensitive to recoil.  The 15" 209x50 recoil was less than any other Encore barrel I've owned, including 308 Win, 30-06 JDJ, 7mm Rem Mag and 280AI, all in 15" lengths and with out brakes.
