Is'nt that reason enough??? Digger is very experienced in all sorts of crossbows and if he says the trigger is bad that should be reason enough to avoid it as a rough trigger leads to not very accurate crossbows one reason I said the Cheap Barnetts and Chinese crossbows were not that great.  I have over the last several years since I got into crossbows saw other reports on the net about the Steel Force crossbows not being that great but I am not going to bother to post them and take up time searching for them if you want to go right ahead. If you do not want to spend a lot of money on a crossbow get the Horton Crossbow Package that sells for 300 bucks that is a Compound xbow. It is called the Summit it at least has a decent trigger and will do the job for a reasonable amount of cash. Check Cabela's or any of the larger sporting goods chains.

Well the Summit is a better deal Both are Hortons and Both cost 300 bucks with a kit. I have shot the Summit and it is a better crossbow but if you want to buy crossbow that has a crappy trigger and is not as good as the Summit for the same price knock your socks off. We are just trying to save you some grief and help you get a nice crossbow.

I shoot Excals and am not bashful about the reasons why.  1st off, no bow shops around me, hence no presses for string changes/re-serves on a compound.  Excal has dominated the 3-D shoots for years.  They don't come w/ a warranty card, you don't need a warranty, lifetime guarantee.   i have more than a little experience w/ xbows, but not as much as some, Digger comes to mind real quick, lol.  I've shot and set up Horton's and PSE.   Dirty little secret, they will all kill deer.  It's not whether or not they all shoot well, it's how long they shoot well, stolen from Bill T, co-owner of Excal.  there are all kinds of choices out there from $2000 10 pts, $1600 Stryker, and on down.  You may very well get a Steellforce and just love it, but most don't and that was the answer to your question.

You still have to buy carbon arrows, and broadheads if you buy the summit. Around here, bout $60 bucks for arrows and broadheads. Not to much extra to have a better bow. But , I would rather stick with a recurve so I could change the string myself.
In the event of a string gone bad on a huntin trip, I like the idea of re-stringing and keep on huntin, instead of a trip to the bow shop.
Oh yea, doesn't come with rope cocker either. Another 20 or 30 bucks.

Well lets face it if you buy a BOW that is what you get is a BOW then you have to outfit it with a peep sight if you want that and a arrow rest as most arrow rest can be inproved on then sights. Things on the strings to or limbs to dampen the sound and a case then you have to buy the arrows and get them cut to your length. buy the time you get done you have usually several hundred bucks into accessories. So if you bought a bow you would have to outfit it.  Same with most crossbows. If money is an issue I would look for a Used Excaliber usually they come all set up and ready to go with accessories and you may save some money that way. Like I said I would call Dan Miller and talk to him he is very helpfull and is just a phone call away all it will cost you is a phone call. Most crossbows do not come with rope cockers. Excaliber does include them in the accessory kit. I had to buy one with my first crossbow too. Face it unless you buy a crossbow used and set up already its going to cost you a bit to get it set up and going. Heck you buy a gun most do not come with a scope and shells and case ect you have to outfit them too.
