Opinions on Sharps Reproductions
« on: September 11, 2007, 04:14:41 AM »
I am interested in one of the Sharps 45/70 Italian Reproductions.  I see Tri-Star, Armsport, EMF or IAB as the choices.  Any opinions on these will be appreciated.  I am not interested in the authentic, antique, originals for $$ reasons.  Thanks.  Don.

If you consider the brands you mentioned you have to consider the value received.
I have seen a couple of them that looked ok for the money used but I would never pay those prices new.
Some of them have a reputation for having soft lock parts and indifferent accuracy.
Send me a PM and I can provide you with a link to more information.

There are a lot of brands and sometimes they are not marked prominently so you could wind up buying the wrong thing.
Some distributors sell 74 Sharps replicas made by 2 different companies. Some distributors sell one brand for a while and then switch. Sometimes you have to have the rifle in hand to know which one you are getting.  They even use the same model names sometimes.

The only Italian I have any experience with is the Pedersoli.
Of all the replicas there seems to 3 levels of quality.

Shiloh Sharps and Christian Sharps and maybe a couple of more obscure ones at the top.

Pedersoli in the middle

A bunch of others at the back of the pack.
Armi-Sports, Pedretti, IAB, etc.

Thanks Ireload2:  that's the kind of feedback I am looking for.  PM on the way.  Let me throw another brand at you:  Uberti.  I have heard good things about Uberti muzzleloaders but have heard nothing about their Sharps.  I am not able to get one of the top level Shilohs or Christians.  Do you know anything specific about the Tre-Star?

DOH!  I just found the Tri-Star website and see that it is an importer of the Pedretti, so that answers that.

Go with Pedersoli or Uberti, they give you a lot for the $$$.

There is no doubt that the Shiloh is the best.  It is also the highest price.  I wanted to buy one, but I could not find a dime's worth of difference between the Shiloh and the top grade Pedersoli.  I read alot about the rifle's before I bought mine.  I bought the top grade Pedersoli(for about 1/2 the price).  It is a fine rifle.  If you look at the people who compete long range with the Sharp's, you will see the Pedersoli at the top of the competitor's.  Tom.

I saved my money, for forever it seemed like, and I was able to get a Shiloh Hartford model chambered in 45-70... My next rifle will be another Shioloh and it will be in 45-90 caliber. Then, if I am fortunate, I will get anothe Hartford model in 45-110 caliber. I already have a quiet a bit of brass, for both of the anticipated calibers.

However, a friend of mine has a Uberti Sharps, in 45-70, which he loves. I have shot his Uberti and it performs well.

A friend of mine has a Uberti and a Pedersolli the Sharps is the Uberti and a Remington rolling block is the other they both shoot like a house a fire. these were bought in the mid to late 90's, the Pedersolli has the better wood to metal fit. I believe Beretta owns Uberti now.
