.376 steyr wildcats?
« on: September 16, 2007, 07:17:08 AM »
Has anyone tried necking the .376 steyr down?  It seems to me that doing so would have a lot of performance potential for someone doing a sporter build on an intermediiate action such as am M48.  I have been trying to decide what I want to do with a pristine VZ24 barrel that I have had sitting around for some time.  I have hit upon the idea of rechambering it to accommodate the.376 Steyr case and basically forming an 8mm/.376 wildcat.  I would expect this combo to give the rough equivalent of .338 Win. Mag performance in an M48 length action.  Is someone already doing this, or would I have to have a custom reamer made?  I have been researching the subject and have only found vague information on a 338/376 wildcat.  I also think that this idea would have potential in 30cal, 7mm, and 6.5mm.  Ideas, thoughts anyone?

I do believe it to be a not bad idea, but the only thing that would worry me is the availability of cases, as Hornady is the only manufacturer that produces them, except you want to shorten 9.3x64 cases, which are not too common either????
Just my thoughts, but "Good Luck" in your endevour.

I currently have a .30 cal. blank at OTT for a 300-376 with a radiused shoulder. Be 18.5" for an Encore. It just got there, so it'll be while before I have any reports
