We are heading for Orr on November 1st. Might try a spot east of International Falls later in the season. Can't wait to get going.

Nowhere...  I'm not going to be able to get off of work - first year for a long time that I'm not going to be able to go hunting due to others taking vacation time leaving us short.  Needless to say, I'm pretty upset.  Have fun out there!

Most will be right near home here around Fergus Falls. I'll have a few days near Itasca State Park during the first week.

Going to be hunting near Northome MN.
My brother gave me 10 acres in the area I have been hunting in, so I built a little hunting cabin.
Well, it is a cabin/deerstand  ;)
I have many good stands in the area, but I also made a shooting lane right out the front window, just in case the weather is horrid.

It is only 8X16, but it has everything my son and I will need.

here is the 180 yard long lane out the window.

But by far the best part, is that my son is taking off a week to be with me, it is the first we have hunted together since he went off to college 6 years ago!

Dude...anyone senior to you that took a weeks vacation had better be hunting and better produce a license. This is serious stuff that people just don't understand. It's like missing the homecoming game, or having a date with the prom queen and standing her up. I've had to miss a few over the years and it's sickening. I wore blaze orange at work on opening weekend nonetheless.

Friar Tuck are you using wood heat, can't see the stack. We've blasted a few out the cabin window too. My brother prefers it actually. I hunt coyote and fox out of the cabin in the winter. Just start dumping road kill deer (after receiving proper road kill permit from any State Peace Officer) and you'll have action. Coyote come in all times of the day. Here's a link to my cabin log from last year and the week hunt I like to take in the dead of winter. My brother and I are on the North Shore by Silver Bay two miles in from Lake Superior (as the crow flies).    http://buckmountainchateau.com/2007.html

Hello bearfat,
That is a great setup you have there.
I went with a 10,000 BTU direct vent LP.
not really enough room in there for a wood heater yet.
It is in this picture (before I lit it, so there is some stuff sitting on it yet.

I love wood heat, and will have that eventually, but for now this empire heater is the slickest thing!

We'll be mainly hunting about 4 miles north of Finland. I also bought 39 acres south of Cook at the end of August so I'll have to spend at least a day over there.

Near Denham/Willow River MN on Family Land.  Oh , Friar Tuck ,what are the dimensions of your shack and what is the model/cost details on that heater?  Is that what I hear called a ventless heater?  And are they safe?   Where does the Carbon Monoxide go if it's a ventless?
Thanx

Hey CZVZ,
The heater is a direct vent empire.
it draws outside air in for combustion, and expels exhaust outside.
I am an EMT, and have worked with too many cases of people using poor heaters in small spaces!

http://www.mastersalesonline.com/empiredirectvent/millivolt.html

The DV210 is the one I used, the cabin is 8X16, well insulated, and the heater barely runs a couple times a night to keep the cabin 70 degrees when it was 35 outside, curious to see how it is in cold weather.

I know others will argue, but I would never sleep in an area that had a ventless heater.
In a perfect world, with a perfect flame, there is no Carbon Monoxide produced,  BUT, if it does get produced, you get to breath it with a ventless, not to mention that you are in competition with the heater for available oxygen.

Friar Tuck, I am going to check out the heater that you listed. I am really getting anxious about heading out.
I'll be hoping to see some hunting reports from you fellas.
