Never heard of anybody who quit drinking for this...
« on: January 24, 2008, 05:15:49 AM »
After being a moderate wine drinker (and occasional cocktail drinker) my entire adult life I quit several weeks ago. It wasn't a problem of alcoholism or anything like that. I just got mad at myself one night because I had planned to do some dry fire practice, but had a glass of wine in the evening. This affected me enough so I didn't do the dry firing.

I realized then that I could not have such interference in important activities and just gave up the drinks.

Long ago I quit smoking similarly because I didn't want my kids ever to see me smoke, so I quit a couple of months before my first born was born.

I've heard of people quitting drinking for religious reasons or because they were drinking too much. But I've never heard of anyone quitting because it interfered with target shooting.

You're not alone...kinda.  I was always a social drinker, but I quit once I got my license to carry.  We all have our priorities Questor, more power to you.   ;)

i never took up drinking , yes i have had a few drinks over the years but very few ( you could count them on your fingers ). No i don't hold it against those that do .
I never did it much because someone always depended on me - wife, kids ,parents , work etc. i just didn't want to be in a position where i could not help one of them if i was drinking .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Heavy C:

How interesting! It's amazing how we prioritize things. I thought I must be some kind of unique case because so small a thing as missing some practice got me mad enough to drop something I've considered a normal part of my life for decades.

Yup for a very similar reason. It was interfering with my hunting and fishing trips/enjoyment. Setting up decoys at 3 am or bowhunting with a hangover took all the fun out of it so I quit.  A hungover in a rocking boat is also no fun.
Just another worthless opinion!!

Know what ya mean.  I've "hungover" the side of a boat to puke up my breakfast a couple of times!!
