Who introduced you to CAS?
« on: February 10, 2003, 04:58:20 AM »
Here's your chance to blow your horn about someone else; that special person or organization who introduced you to this great sport.

I'll start it off.

Mr. Nathan Ward (his alias), a good friend and life long shooter.  He used to be my boss but has now moved on to greener pastures.  Nathan spent countless hours talking about what a great group of people were in SASS and invited me to monthly shoots for several months before I was able to make time to attend one as a spectator.  Having six kids means a lot of planning is required to make the time for this sport.  Of course, once I attended a shoot, there was no turning back!

Thank you Nathan Ward.  You have introduced me to the greatest sport and the greatest people on the planet.  I am forever in your debt.

Lone Wolf and his wife Lady Wolf got me involved.  Lady W. is my math director at our school district.  We were fellow teachers before she moved up to admin.  She's been at it (teaching) for 35 years; I'm just a rookie at 30 years.
My bride and I ran into them as we were leaving a resturant and they were coming in in their CAS outfits.  Got to talking and the rest is history.  On my first shoot they provided everything for me, leather, guns, ammo, the works.  I return the favor each month by helping others get introduced to CAS.  (As I cast I also give them 500 bullets each time, too)

Well I am going to be honest.  I had never met anyone that shot CAS before I got interested.  Heck it was you guys that got me going.  Thats the truth. I get strait answers and help here and I have never met a nicer bunch of people.
I would like to get to Houston and shoot with Ranger when he gets better. I am going to get to California and shoot with Pecos too.  Heck I would like to get to each of your clubs and give them a shot too.  Maybe someday.

Like D.B., no one introduced me to this sport.  I read about it in about 1994. Just married, no money, none of the equipment, in the middle of nowhere. (Rosebud Souix reservation in South Dakota) The nearest club was about 3 hours away.  Then we moved to Alaska. The nearest club was an hour away. You might think that's not a big deal, but it was an hour by PLANE!!  Still didn't join.  Then we moved down to Orygun in '98.  Went into a local sporting goods store and saw a flyer. Got directions and met a bunch of friendly helpful pards and the rest is history!!

Just think, if I had joined when I first wanted to, my badge # would be half of what it is now!! :)
Time to fold,

Heard about it, read about it, did it.  Got to tell you, having a spouse who is also interested makes a big difference.  She's the one who decided I needed new Rugers to replace my low-end Ubertis.  One of the few times she got no argument from me.

Well I've yet to shoot my first match but am expecting to do so on March 1. Can't rightly say any one individual got me going. Been thinking on it for several years but just never got a round to making it happen. When all you guys moved here to my site and got to posting it kinda got me interested again. Big Ed volunteered the leather if I'd start so I guess ya might say he was the impetus that got me off dead center. But really it was just reading and participating here with you guys.

Al Gore!    :-D Since he says he's the one that invented the internet.  :-D  :-D  :-D

Had heard about it, so I went looking and found sassnet.com, hung around the wire, read the rules, found some clubs close enough, made the contacts and went.
I sure hope to make it easier for folks around here that might be intrested!

Kalamity Karen is the one I have to thank for getting me interested.  I sold her a wall tent (vendor tent) at work one day.  She is a clothing maker and needed a new one for NCOWS nationals. We got to talking and although it took a while for me to get to one of the events in Iowa, that was all it took to get me (and the wife) hooked.
That was about two years ago.  Shure has been a fun two years!

My Uncle Harlan, He went by the alias of Two Gun Smith he was involved in the World Fast Draw Assoc. since the early 50's I believe and SASS since the early 80's, when he passed on it was the catalyst for me and I can see why he had so much fun, even my youngest daughter (10) joined up and she has a blast going to the shoots with me.

For me it was Wagonmaster from Northern Mn.   Met him at a BPCS shoot in Wisconsin and he told me all about CAS and SASS.  Later on, I found the SASS website, looked up the closest club to me and sent them an e-mail.  They told me how to find their range.  I went there to watch but they found me some guns and got me to try shootin'.  Been hooked ever since.
