.257 Roberts loads?
« on: October 29, 2007, 07:20:41 PM »
Does anyone have favorite loads for the .257 Roberts?  So far, it looks like Speer 120s Nosler Partition 120s, and Sierra 117s are the most reliable and accurate.  I never could get SST 117s to shoot very well.  Combined Technology 115s pattern, and the 100s just don't impress, so far.  Looking at a ~3/8 in. load from the Sierra 87s tho.   :)   I use IMR 4064 for the 87s, and I may try Nosler 85s just to see. H4350 and H4831SC for the 100-120s.  Has anyone had experience with any 75 gr. bullets?  How do they tend to shoot?  Are they not too short?
Thanks.

I wont post or give loads i use for the 257 as there well over what the loading books use. but ive had real good luck with imr and H4350 and imr 4064 usiing both 117 siera fb spitzers  and 12o speer hot cores. Probably my favorite .25 bullet of all time was the old discontinued nosler 120 solid base.

flyboy..sorry i can't help ya..much..i just started reloading for my "bob" yesterday...i had some 100 grain sierra's floating around & decided to load some with h-380..using hodgdon's info i started @ 40.5 grain's & worked up to 43.0 grain's..max is 44.0..my best group was @ 43.0 resulting in a 1 1/4 four shot group...i also have h-4350 on hand & again using hodgdon's info of 43.0 to start...resulted in about a 2 1/2..four shot group..didn't work up from there with that load..not enough time..anyway my m77 ruger is all stock..might do some tweaking with time..i have an interest in shooting the 87 grain sierra's..i think it might be a good coyote load..will consider imr 4064...have some of that on hand also...thank's for the thread i hope other's have more thought's..
