need a Sportster .22 mag.
« on: November 23, 2007, 07:00:52 AM »
I have a friend who is looking for an H&R Sportster in .22 WMR. The snag is that he wants the straight comb hardwood stock and the 22" bull barrel. Those items are available from the H&R accessory site but they don't seem to offer that combination as a complete rifle. Do they offer the Sportster with a wood stock?  Do they offer the 22" bull barrel on a complete rifle?  If I contact H&R would they put one together for me?  Any other suggestions as to how I could come up with that combination?

Thanks Tim, now I know why they call you "Quick".  I'll look into that ultra-varmint, it does have the clunky monte carlo comb but I guess a good wood rasp could take care of that.

The 22" bull barrel is also available as an accessory barrel, you could buy a 22Lr Sportster, send the frame in for the barrel and a stock set, either a straight pallet wood stock, or the much nicer checkered walnut Topper Deluxe Classic or the one of the laminated stocks as seen below on my 44mag and 357mag.

You could also sell the laminated stock set and order the stock set of choice, or trade it for one of your choice in the NEF Classifieds.

Lot's O'choices!! ;)

The 22WMR bull barrel doesn't come with sights,  if he wants sights, they'll add them for $47(last time someone had it done anyway) on the accessory barrel.

Thanks again Tim, you're right, there are lots of ways to get there. I think the cheapest and easiest is to go with the Ultra-Varmint, only about 30 bucks more than the standard Sportster, and not a bad looking gun. He can either get used to the clunky comb or he can rasp it off. Only problem with that is I'm pretty sure my friend will not like that comb and I'm even more sure it is I who will end up cutting and refinishing that buttstock and I suspect it is finished with some nasty plastic varnish. Oh well, some day I'll get around to working on one of my own guns, I guess I'm just too easy. ;D
